Power Probe
A power probe is a device that is used in electrical appliances to improve the efficiency of the electrical machines. They are mainly used in machinery in factories that depend on high currents for their operation in production. Power probes come are available in many designs depending the customer. The type of power probes that are available range from those to be used in manufacturing factories to those that can be used in homes and even fitted in the car. Another example of a power probe is the TE-POWER PROBE. This is an integrated thermo harvester that is specially designed to operate in natural convection to ambient air. It has a powerful heat sink that ensures high levels of heat dissipation that enhances maximum thermo harvesting results when it’s positioned in a horizontal orientation. The good thing about this power probe is that it can be modified by the manufacturer to suit the need of the consumer. Mechanically the device is dominated by a cylindrical aluminum heat sink with a copper bolt protruding at one end. The TE- Power Probe output voltage is internally fixed at 4.5 volts to enable the recharging of the lithium chemistry secondary cells including the thin film of batteries and capacitors. It also works well in extending the life of 3.6 v primary cells by contributing harvester power through a decoupling diode. The circuit in the probe contains some redundant zeners for reasons of intrinsic safety.
The key component of the TE-POWER PROBE is the MPG-D751 thermal generator. This thermal generator has unregulated direct current output that rise with increase in temperature. Its output is quite low hence it’s fitted with DC booster that increases the output with an efficiency level of about 95%. The DC Booster and the TEG are internally connected for the power probe to work more efficiently. The wiring of the TE- Probe is done carefully to prevent any risks that may arise. The cable that exits the TE-POWER PROBE is sealed against the heat sink and is non-removable .Individual leads are color-coded for easier identification. The sealants may get into the way of the thermal path but this is taken care of using an alternative Te-power probe which is designed with a copper bolt designed for direct liquid immersion.
