Funky Smells Might Mean Car Problems
Nearly everybody enjoys the smell of a brand new car. Someway the leather and plastic combine together to make an appealing fragrance. Indeed, after awhile, many of us buy air fresheners to make it smell like vanilla or melons. Unique aromas for different personalities are all well and good. But, what happens if you start to notice an odd smell in your car. We are going to focus on how certain smells that suddenly appear could mean a possible problem for your car.
One of the first things that come to mind is a sick sweet smell. Most of the time this is caused by a leak in your coolant system. Although this may be a small leak, it is something you will want to get fixed right away before it causes other troubles. One further thing you may possibly notice is that this smell is really powerful. Should you have this strong stink, it might mean that the heater core is leaking in the car. Just as before this is something to get fixed immediately as the fumes are not good for you to be breathing in and the lack of coolant can lead to other issues.
You might also notice that you can smell the exhaust in your car. This is a good clue that there can be a hole in your exhaust system. If the smell is very detectable, it could mean that you've got holes in the floorboard caused by rust or the doors are not sealing very well. Inhaling the exhaust isn't good for your health at all so you will need to have this checked and fixed at once.
Some time ago, I left to fill my vehicle up with gasoline and when I left the station, I still smelled gasoline. I did not think a single thing of it yet the next day, I really could still smell gas in my car. It turned out that I had developed a leak on the topside point of my fuel tank. It is probably the most dangerous smell due to the fact any spark could very well set off a fire. Hence there is no reason to go into detail with regards to your car catching on fire. Which means that if you ever smell gasoline, get your car to a mechanic immediately.
As a final point, you may come across a spoiled egg odor. If you encounter this smell in your car it is more than likely brought on by the fact that your catalytic converter has become clogged. At this stage without having the proper exhaust you may end up doing more damage to your car. So when you have that rotten egg smell, get your car in and have it checked out.
There are more odd smells that you might come across as you use your car. For that reason, don't just dismiss it, take your car in to make sure that there is nothing amiss.
